Wyndham Brickfest Returns in 2022

17 May  2022

Although COVID blocked us in 2020 and 2021, Wyndham Brickfest is returning in 2022 on June 25 and 26 at Hoppers Crossing Secondary College.

Wyndham Brickfest raises funds for the Paediatric Ward at Werribee Mercy Hospital through a Lego® building competition which is open for all age groups to enter.

We encourage entries into the following age groups and model sizes:

·   12 and under (Fitting on a 32x32 stud Lego® baseplate)

·   17 and under (Fitting on a 32x32 stud Lego® baseplate)

·   Adult/Open – For adults or any children who feel their model can compete against an adult builder. (Fitting on a 32x32 stud Lego® baseplate)

·   Large Display/Open – For all large model displays and models which do not meet the size restrictions of the other categories.

“We encourage creativity so your builds can be big or small and at the end of the day we want everyone involved to have some fun,” Andrew Elsbury, President of Wyndham Brickfest said.

By using their own bricks and building at home, competitors can choose to replicate a landmark, develop a crazy machine or bring to life a creation from their own imaginations. The great thing about Lego® is that the possibilities are limitless.

“In 2019 when we held our first Wyndham Brickfest we raised $3000 to help the children and their families who use the Paediatric Ward have a better experience through improved equipment and amenities.”

Sponsors like Pacific Werribee, My Clinic Werribee Village, My Clinic Tarneit,  Toyworld Central Werribee, Print to a T, Lakra First National Real Estate, Westwood First National Real Estate and Brick Me make our event possible.

12 April 2021

LEGO® enthusiasts across Wyndham are being called upon to help organise the 2021 Wyndham Brickfest.

After a pause in 2020 the Wyndham Brickfest Committee is rebuilding to get ready for a LEGO® fan competition to raise funds for the Werribee Mercy Hospital’s Paediatric Ward.

“A lot has happened since we last held Wyndham Brickfest in 2019. We are seeking new people to join our committee to help organise a great family event”, Wyndham Brickfest Chairperson Andrew Elsbury said.

“All of our members are volunteers, this means all the money we raise at Brickfest goes to the Childrens’ Ward at Werribee Hospital.”

If you are interested in getting involved we will meet at 7:30pm on Monday 10 May 2021 at the Werribee Masonic Hall 223 Watton Street Werribee.

We can also be contacted on wyndhambrickfest@gmail.com and search Wyndham Brickfest on Facebook.

Bricks and Burgers

8 November 2019

The organisers of Wyndham Brickfest are holding a Bricks and Burgers event at Grill’d Pacific Werribee on Sunday 1 December. Every burger or salad sold during the day will see $2 donated to the Paediatric Ward at Werribee Mercy Hospital.

“Wyndham Brickfest was a great event with $3000 being raised for our local Paediatric Ward,” Wyndham Brickfest Chair Andrew Elsbury said today.

“Bricks and Burgers is a great partnership we have established with Grill’d Werribee. They wanted to help so we discussed what could happen and we landed on a day with Lego® based activities and $2 from every burger or salad sold being sent to our kids ward.”

On 1 December $2 from every burger or salad sold at Grill’d Werribee will be donated. A free brick play area will be set up and a competition will be held for the best burger constructed using Lego® or other play bricks. A Lego® Technic® Racing Yacht model 42074 worth $50 donated by Victoria University will be the first prize.

Grilled Werribee Franchise Partner Brett Carman said, “We are thrilled to be working with the Wyndham Brickfest team who have brought a great enthusiasm for our community. It’s all about a bit of fun, good food and raising funds for our local hospital.”

“We also supported Wyndham Brickfest through our ‘Local Matters’ token jars. The ‘Local Matters’ grants share out $500 across three community groups with our customers deciding how the funds are divided by placing their token in the group’s jar. Wyndham Brickfest was awarded $100 from our October donations.”

There is no need to book for Bricks and Burgers, just come along, buy a burger and test out your building skills.

“Good Call” for Wyndham Brickfest

22 August 2019

The inaugural Wyndham Brickfest has received a huge boost with 7-Eleven coming on-board as major sponsor.

“I am overwhelmed that 7-Eleven is supporting our community fundraising effort with their commitment as our major sponsor”, Wyndham Brickfest Chair Andrew Elsbury said today.

“This deal means the cost of the venue will not come out of ticket takings, placing the money straight into the Werribee Mercy Hospital’s Paediatric Ward.”

“We will also be able to sell Wyndham Brickfest 2019 bricks with all profits going to the hospital and we will be able to deliver some great prizes to winners of our competitions. My committee and I thank 7-Eleven for their awesome support of Wyndham Brickfest 2019,” Mr Elsbury said.

7-Eleven has a strong presence in the Wyndham community.

“We have a number of stores in the Wyndham area, and the Wyndham Brickfest event is raising funds for the Werribee Mercy Hospital Paediatric Ward which does amazing work to look after kids in our local community,” Marc Costabile 7-Eleven State Manager, Victoria said.

“No one ever wants to need the services of the Werribee Mercy Hospital team, but having such wonderful facilities in their area if needed is vital for our local team and customers.”

“Our partnership with Wyndham Brickfest will deliver extra support to Werribee Mercy Hospital and we encourage Lego® enthusiasts to get building!” Mr Costabile said.

Early Bird Tickets and Competition Entries are available at: https://www.trybooking.com/BDZNK  Wyndham Brickfest will be held on 21 and 22 September in the Gymnasium at Thomas Carr College, Tarneit.

Start Building for the Inaugural Wyndham Brickfest

27 June 2019

Lego® enthusiasts need to get building as the inaugural Wyndham Brickfest begins to take form as an event for the September School Holidays.

Wyndam Brickfest will be held on 21 and 22 September 2019 in the gymnasium at Thomas Carr College, 35 Thomas Carr Drive Tarneit.

“This is a great venue for Wyndham’s creative Lego® builders to bring their A-game and get involved”, Wyndham Brickfest Chair Andrew Elsbury said today.

“The space offered provides us with a great opportunity to bring massive displays of train sets, city scapes, Star Wars dioramas, fantasy depictions and other expressions of building with the Lego® system”.

“The July school holidays present a great time to get building! There will be a series of competitions surrounding the large displays as well as smaller models which fit on a 32X32 lug baseplate and models of Wyndham buildings, perhaps the Werribee Mercy Hospital, which fit on a 48X48 lug baseplate.”

Naturally original models or MOCs (My Own Creations) as it is called in the Lego® community will be judged more favourably than a series of Lego® sets.

Competition entry fees and ticket prices for patrons to see these creations will be announced shortly with all proceeds going to assist the Werribee Mercy Hospital’s new Children’s Ward.

More competitions will be announced as will prizes as we get closer to 21 September. “We understand how long it can take to plan and build Lego® models from scratch so here is your starting signal”, Andrew said.

“We also welcome a Major Prize Sponsor Toyworld Central Werribee and Volunteer T-Shirt Sponsor Print to a T. It would be great for more businesses to join us either as prize sponsors or by pledging to donate to the Mercy Health Foundation at Wyndham Brickfest.”

Looking for Lego Lovers

Building a Committee for the Wyndham Lego® Expo

9 May 2019

Calling all Lego® enthusiasts in Wyndham, we need you!

Planning has begun for a Wyndham Lego® Expo to be constructed in our community and we need your help to make it happen.

From the baseplate up we need to click the pieces together; find a venue, lock in a date, deciding on the contests, finding sponsors, advertising and finally being there for the duration of the event to make sure it runs smoothly.

Organiser Andrew Elsbury as has been a Lego® enthusiast since he was a child. “My first Lego® set was a police car and my affinity for the brick was born. Today as a Dad I build Lego® with my daughters and enjoy seeing their creativity with a toy I have enjoyed for so long.”

“The Wyndham Lego® Expo is an opportunity for people to share their love of this toy and raise funds for the Werribee Mercy Hospital’s new dedicated Paediatric Ward. The more money we raise means additional services and improved experiences for the children in our community who need to use our hospital.”

All potential committee members need to be aware that this is a 100% volunteer based event with money raised going to Werribee Mercy Hospital.

“I envisage a number of events to make up the Expo including an engineering contest which I hope schools would want to participate, encouraging students to design and build vehicles to complete a task. I also hope a “Building Wyndham” model contest could see local iconic buildings reproduced in Lego® form,” Andrew said.

A meeting will be held:

7pm to 8:30pm on Tuesday 21 May 2019

at Elios Italian Family Bistro, 39 Old Geelong Road Hoppers Crossing

Attendance is free but we encourage participants to register at our Facebook page and purchase some food to thank our hosts.

Go to: www.facebook.com/wyndhamlegoexpo or email wyndhamlegoexpo@gmail.com to register your interest.
